What is a RagaMuffin?

Characteristics of a Ragamuffin

RagaMuffins will grow to be one of the largest cats with an easy to care for, medium to long, full coat that does not mat. It has a soft rabbit-like texture. The fur tends to grow straight out from the body, enabling you to rub against the grain, which they love for you to do. They enjoy having their tummies rubbed and will often lie on their backs in invitation. These huggable, lovable felines have the ability to go limp in your arms. Females average from eight to fifteen pounds but can get up to 20 pounds.  While males can reach thirty pounds. The skeletal frame is larger than most other cats, enabling them to carry this extra weight most gracefully. Maturity is reached between three and four years of age, and the RagaMuffin remains playful throughout their adult life.

They tend to bond with their owners. Unlike many breeds, the RagaMuffin will crave attention from their family members. Most of them will develop traits usually associated with puppies, such as: following their family around the house, waiting for you to come home at the door. Ragamuffins are very intelligent, they are easily taught to walk on a leash and may be taught to do tricks such as fetching, rolling over, sitting up to beg, etc. They get along well with children, dogs and other cats. Having been bred for an extremely docile nature, the RagaMuffin thinks everyone should be their friend. Not knowing the dangers of the outside world, they are strictly ''indoor members of the family''.
RagaMuffins tend to be "soft pawed" which means they use their claws less frequently when playing.

The RagaMuffin comes in a rainbow of colors and patterns including, but not limited to :

  • Colors: Seal, chocolate, blue, lilac, mink, black, red, silver, shaded, smoke, cream, white, tortoiseshell, calico, white
  • Patterns: Color point, lynx point, solid, tabby, all with or without white.

They look at the world through eyes that come in an array of beautiful colors such as:

  • blue, green, gold, amber, odd eyed and aqua.
  • The color points will all have blue eyes.

Major Differences between Ragamuffins and Ragdolls

  • Slight cranial doming and rounded skull between the ears (Ragdoll calls for flat plane between the ears).

  • Ears tipped forward as if listening (Ragdoll ears are flared and to the side).

  • Large Walnut shaped eyes (Ragdoll calls for almond shaped eyes).

  • Recognized in all colors and patterns. (Ragdoll are accepted in 4 colors and 3 patterns).

  • Concavity to the nose, giving the impression of a scoop (Ragdoll calls for break or slope).

  • Coat medium to medium long. Their coats tend to be a little shorter, thicker and very plush, like that of a rabbit. (Ragdoll breeds for moderately long coat, very silky and fine, almost like that of a guinea pig.).

  • Long rectangular bodies (Ragdoll tend to be even longer).

  • RagaMuffins are a balanced cat - with the weight in the front and the back evenly distributed.  (Ragdolls call for more weight in the rear of the cat).

  • RagaMuffins tend to be larger than Ragdolls.  RagaMuffin males can reach 30 pounds, ragdolls 20 pounds.  RagaMuffin females can reach 20 pounds, ragdolls 10-12 pounds.
